Massage Therapy

Chiropractic treatments and massages are complementary disciplines – both fit together perfectly. At Pines Family, Dr. Behar will work closely with his patients to develop the best treatment possible for your overall health. Massage Therapy extends the benefits of a chiropractic adjustment, which nearly all of our patients have received. It’s been proven that most of our patients that have received a chiropractic adjustment or massage therapy have seen a decrease in muscle tension and pain.

At Pines Family Chiropractic Center, we view how closely Chiropractic Adjustments and Massage Therapies are related:

  • • Chiropractic adjustments extend the benefits and relief of massage therapies. When patients receive massages without an adjustment first, we often see them return for similar pain and complaints of what they had before the massage.
  • • Chiropractic adjustments and massage therapies both help and touch the skeletal system.
  • • While chiropractors deal with the nervous system, which includes the vertebral column and other joints of the body, massage therapists usually only deal with the musculoskeletal system. In general, chiropractors deal with more when treating the skeletal and nervous system instead of just the muscular system like massage therapists.

At Pines Family, we offer three different types of massages:

Swedish Massage

A Swedish massage includes kneading, long strokes, percussion, friction, tapping, vibration, shaking motions, and effleurage. The normal and usual sequences of these treatments are:

  • • Effleurage: Long strokes with the palms, fingertips, and thumbs
  • • Petrissage: Kneading motions with the hands, thumbs, and fingertips
  • • Friction: Pressures with the palms of hands, thumbs, and fingers in a circular motion
  • • Vibration: Oscillatory movements that can shake and vibrate the entire body
  • • Percussion: Quick hacking and tapping over the body
  • • Passive and Active Movements: Bending and stretching of the body and its muscles for pain relief

A Swedish massage is relaxing, alleviates pain, and can be invigorating. It has the possibility to affect and relieve the nerves of muscles, glands, and circulation of the body while still promoting overall good health.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a technique that focuses on the deeper layers of your body and muscles. It’s focus is to release the chronic tensions of your body by applying slow and forceful strokes on certain areas repeatedly. A deep tissue massage can help loosen muscle tissues, break up any scarring you have on your muscles, and help release toxins from your body to help get blood and oxygen circulating your body properly.

Pregnancy Massage

Some research has shown that massage therapies performed during pregnancy can help reduce anxiety, decrease depression, and relieve both muscles and joint pains. It’s also shown to help improve labor and newborn health.

A massage can also help with edema, the swelling of the joints during pregnancy. This is often caused by the reduction in circulation and increased pressure on blood vessels over the body from a heavy uterus. Undergoing a massage can help alleviate these blood vessels which in turn reduces swelling and any discomfort.

Another common problem that can arise during pregnancy is sciatic nerve pain. Many women experience this in their late pregnancy as the uterus rests on the muscles of the lower back and pelvic area. A massage therapy can help address these swollen areas caused by the heavy uterus to help relieve any pain and discomfort they may have. Many women experience a significant reduction in sciatic nerve pain after undergoing a massage therapy in Pembroke Pines or Weston FL.

Here at Pines Family, we believe that a massage therapy is one of the best compliments for a chiropractic adjustment and care. Since muscles are attached to joints and bones, it’s very important for them to be relaxed and receive the proper care they should. By doing this, it can help the overall health of the body and the skeletal system. Regular chiropractic care, a healthy diet, exercise, and a periodic massage will lead you to a long and healthy life. Contact the Pines Family Chiropractic Center today to schedule your massage!
